(LOS ANGELES) — When former first lady Michelle Obama took the stage at this year’s United State of Women summit in Los Angeles, the crowd erupted in cheers so loud that Tracee Ellis Ross joked from the stage: “Are you gonna be able to hear us if you keep screaming?”

This was the start of a conversation between Obama and Ross, who are friends in real life. It was the start of the most highly anticipated speaking event at the USOW, following a day filled with high profile speakers including Jane Fonda, Valerie Jarrett, Tina Tchen, Aly Raisman and more.

Another incredibly powerful moment at the summit was when four athletes who all confronted disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar in court earlier this year took the stage as “sister survivors.” Aly Raisman, Jordyn Wieber, Tiffany Lopez and Jeanette Antolin took the USOW stage side by side after being introduced by Sophia Bush, who said it was “an honor to bear witness to their experience.”

Many of the powerhouse women who spoke at the United State of Women conference told “GMA” that they wanted women to leave the summit feeling not just inspired, but motivated by all of the memorable moments and speeches.

“I hope that women leave with action items,” Sophia Bush said. “Not just inspiration. There’s big inspiration here, but one of the things I’m always so impressed by at this summit is that you walk away knowing what to do next, what the steps are that you can take to activate yourself, to activate your community to create the kind of change you want to create and I really hope that it’s the kind of day that inspires people to walk the walk even further when you walk out of this building.” (WBAL – Read full article)

Hello all! In the last couple of days, Sophia has attended two new events. On May 5th, she was one of the speakers at the 2018 “The United State Of Women Summit”. This was a summit held in Washington, D.C., which focused on gender equality in the United States. The summit was hosted by the White House, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Aspen Institute. Other attendees were Jane Fonda, Michelle Obama, Piper Perabo and several other politicians, actors and influencers – in other words, Sophia was in great company!

Earlier tonight, May 7th, Sophia stepped out again for an intimate luncheon hosted by AMC, with Joy Nash, Marti Noxon and Aisha Tyler in Celebration of Their New Original Series, ‘Dietland’. Sophia looked so casual and pretty! High quality photos from both the events can now be found in our gallery.

Hello everyone! A while back we shared the news that Sophia would guest star in an episode of the new Netflix series featuring Zach Braff called “Alex, Inc.”, and now we finally have more information about the episode and her character. The episode is titled “The Cop Car”, and it will be released on Netflix April 25th! You can read on for more information, and I have updated our gallery with episode stills.

EW – Looks like Alex Schuman has some competition on his hands! In these exclusive images from the April 25 episode of Alex, Inc., Sophia Bush guest-stars as Vanessa Stanhope, a rival radio producer trying to steal away Alex’s devoted producer, Deirdre (Hillary Anne Matthews), with an offer to host her very own show.

In the episode, titled “The Cop Car,” Alex (Zach Braff) once again has to navigate an unforeseen obstacle as he tries to get his podcast off the ground, and finds himself in trouble with his wife, Rooni (Tiya Sircar), after he reveals a private moment to his audience. Meanwhile his son Ben (Elisha Henig) learns of a crush at school.

Braff made his post-Scrubs TV return in Alex, Inc. last month, playing a married father of two who quits his successful radio job to launch a podcasting enterprise. The ABC series is inspired by the popular podcast StartUp and loosely based on host Alex Blumberg documenting the trials of pitching his own company.

Disney/Pixar has released a new trailer for their upcoming film Incredibles 2, in which Sophia voices Voyd! In “Incredibles 2,” Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose super powers are about to be discovered. Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side.

Written and directed by Brad Bird (“Iron Giant,” “The Incredibles,” “Ratatouille”) and produced by John Walker (“The Incredibles,” “Tomorrowland”) and Nicole Grindle (“Sanjay’s Super Team” short), the film busts into theaters on June 15, 2018.

Hello Sophia fans! I’ve been going back and forth about posting this or not, as we are first and foremost a source for news and career related updates. But lately this whole thing have been heavily discussed on social media, and I know many might be confused about what’s going on (I certainly was). I’ve therefore decided to share an article explaining everything that has happened between Hilarie and Sophia and the EyeCon convention, as well as a couple of my own thoughts.

As some of you might know, a lot of the One Tree Hills girls were set to attend an EyeCon-hosted “One Tree Hill” convention later this year. It turns out they weren’t made aware the convention changed the con focus to “Girl Power” / “Empowering Women”, and by that also marketing it as though the girls on the show would talk about their struggles and what went on behind the scenes on the set (read the article below for more information on that if you’re not already aware). The cast never agreed to this, and as she has made it clear already, Hilarie (Burton) isn’t ready to relive what happened to her back then. As the great and supportive friend she is, Sophia came to Hilarie’s defense once everything became very messy and public. Hilarie has been given a lot of hate on social media, partly caused by the convention themselves, and I’m proud of both her and Sophia for sticking up for each other and holding their ground! While the Convention theme might be a good and important one, the cast should have been made aware upfront and asked if they were ready for it. We’ve all been heartbroken to hear what they had to endure during the One Tree Hill filming, and they should be allowed to move on from it now. I know those who hoped to meet them there must be gutted they are now dropping out of it, but please, let us not lose focus of what’s most important! I hope we can all support the girls with their decision – I certainly back them 100%, and I’m once again so proud of them both.

Below you can read E! Entertainment’s full story on the situation, which explains what happened in full. You can also read Sophia’s full statement, where she defends Hilarie and announce that she’s out of the convention as well.

Sophia Bush shall not be messed with.

The 35-year-old actress took to Twitter today, posting a lengthy message in response to those attacking her former co-star, Hilarie Burton, for stating that she will not be attending an upcoming annual One Tree Hill EyeCon convention.

“I’m sorry Mary. I will not be attending any EyeCon events. Ever,” Burton wrote to a fan. “I personally feel exploited by their ‘girl power’ angle, which exists at the expense of some of us who went through a difficult time on that show. They’re using our sisterhood as a sales gimmick. No thanks.”

Following her tweet, multiple members from EyeCon responded to the star on Twitter, which the organization then re-tweeted from their official account.

After seeing the backlash from the EyeCon organization, Bush quickly came to her friend’s defense. “Hilarie Burton is my sister. Don’t f–k with her. Period,” she wrote along with a lengthy supportive message.

As E! News previously reported, One Tree Hill showrunner, Mark Schwahn, was accused of sexual harassment by 18 cast and crew members in an open letter published in November. In addition, cast members including Bush, Burton, Jana Kramer and Bethany Joy Lenz expressed their support for their former colleague Audrey Wauchope who also accused Schwahn of sexual harassment.

Read Bush’s full response in support of Burton below.

“Let’s get real clear, real quick. Hilarie Burton is my sister. She is a big-hearted, brilliant, thoughtful, incredible human. She has had laser sharp, clearly defined integrity running up her spine as long as I have known her.

She is a human being. She has feelings. She is entitled to her OWN OPINIONS. She does not make statements hastily. She didn’t say something about a business situation and the way that it was handled that was ‘based on emotion, not logic.’ And the fact that a ‘business organization’ would DARE to say such a thing has a fire burning in me.

So let’s get brutally honest. You want to throw a ‘women’s empowerment’ event but bash a woman who said that the way it’s been handled doesn’t feel good to her? A woman whose personal victimization took the world’s stage this past fall? Whose sisterhood circled around her, and each other, to see to it that he be stopped from treating other women in such a way? How. Dare. You.

Want to know why Hil said she feels exploited by this ’empowerment’ con? Well add my name to that hat. Because so do I. We told our stories. As a united front. We refused to let it get tabloidy and gross. And then suddenly a convention publicly announced that they want to empower women? Now, that would have been FINE – lovely, even – IF THEY HAD SPOKEN TO US ABOUT THIS. Had they called our reps and said, ‘as fellow victims in our own individual ways, we want to make the next con all about women, and raise money for women’s charities.’ They did not. Let me repeat. They. Did. NOT. They didn’t ask a single one of us if we’d feel okay focusing a convention, which is dedicated to the show on which many of us were harassed or abused behind the scenes, around those very issues and thus offer an expectation to all fans and attendees that we would be discussing these past violations and focusing on issues that none of us want to be forced to relive in meet and greets and photo sessions. They made an announcement without thinking of any of the women of One Tree Hill for a second. And now they are defending themselves by saying that Mark took advantage of them too? That he ruined their ability to watch a show which felt like their safe space. Well it HAPPENED to us.

They are also now saying that because they too have stories from their own lives, they couldn’t have possibly pounced on the business opportunity of capitalizing on our experiences. And my heart breaks for their past pain. But those painful realities are not mutually exclusive from a clear business opportunity. None of those deeply personal experiences of the women behind the scenes of this event will be asked about in Q&As. None of those women will be asked to expand in front of an audience about what MeToo means to them. None of those women will have their past be made fair game fodder without their EXPRESS PERMISSION and CONSENT. Any of us who has spoken about this – in interviews, on panels, at conferences – has been ASKED FIRST. They did not ask us. They announced a deeply personal theme and intention, which revolves in this context, around what all OTH fans know happened to us, without thinking about us at all. And forgive me if it now feels like the claim of charity fundraising is being made to cover this up. (For example, they cited Ian doing a con to raise money for his charity? That didn’t just happen. It was PLANNED. Where was our opportunity to plan any such fundraiser prior to this announcement being made and the expectation that because of the ‘theme’ we would all just be on board?)

Don’t even get me started on the reality – which I know for a FACT – that multiple women reported a male guest at these conventions behaving inappropriately and this ‘organization’ did NOTHING. He was invited back multiple times, until more than one of us women was alerted and then jointly said expressly that we would never do another con if he were present. Again. FACT.

So. Yes. This feels exploitative. Yes, this feels like a violation. And the fact that a ‘business’ would behave in such a childish and offensive manner as to incite the bashing of an actress sharing her personal opinion about her feelings – the fact that they would stoop so low as to retweet hateful messages about her – or pit victims against one another? I’ve seen fans attacking each other over whose abuse is worse?! This is revolting. REVOLTING. To shame a woman and say she’s ’emotional not logical?’ I thought that kind of bullsh-t was reserved for mansplaining. And low and behold it’s being done by women. How dare you. Here’s me being logical, listing out facts and your failures to behave professionally with both your statements and your backend communications with us. Here’s me ALSO expressing my emotions of anger and disgust and saying that I’m out. You won’t be seeing me there. I wasn’t going to attend because I too felt icky about the ‘theme’ given the complete lack of conversation about it. But now? Nah. You came for my sister. That’s the most anti-women-support-women action I’ve seen. So yeah. This is me officially saying I’m out too.”

Hello Sophia fans! For those interested in more information about the Talbots line Sophia models for Oprah Winfrey‘s magazine, I’m sharing an article by WWD about the collection. As they write in the introduction, “To date, the O-Talbots tie-up has raised more than $3 million in monetary contributions, collected 60,000 articles of clothing and subsequently helped to impact 60,000 women’s lives.” I love that Sophia support and participate in such great campaigns!

WWD | SUCCESS STORIES: Upping the stakes for its third collaboration with O, The Oprah Magazine to benefit Dress for Success, this time around Talbots will match cash donations up to $250,000.

This year’s launch date for O, The Oprah Magazine Collection for Talbots is Feb. 20 at retail and online. To help get the word out, the activist-leaning Connie Britton, Yvette Nicole Brown, Sophia Bush, Busy Philipps and Tanika Ray are on board as influencers. Talbots senior vice president of marketing Deb Cavanagh said, “We wanted to identify high-profile women of influence who truly cared about our cause and our mission.”

Supporters and shoppers have a few ways to get involved. Cash donations can be made in stores Feb. 20 through April 1. Talbots is also encouraging women to clean out their closets and will accept “nearly new” clothing and accessories in its 435 locations March 1 to 4. Consumers can also pitch in by purchasing items from the O, The Oprah Magazine Collection for Talbots collection. Thirty percent of net proceeds from those purchases will benefit Dress for Success, which helps women return to the workforce.

To date, the O-Talbots tie-up has raised more than $3 million in monetary contributions, collected 60,000 articles of clothing and subsequently helped to impact 60,000 women’s lives.

Cavanagh said, “Women have come together in an unprecedented way to stand beside each other and to stand for not just empowerment but ultimately supporting success. So this campaign really feels so well-timed to fit into the cultural focus and Oprah’s focus.”

The March issue of O magazine has two impact covers — one featuring Britton and the other with Brown and Bush. There is also a three-page spread touting the O, The Oprah Magazine Collection for Talbots. O’s creative director Adam Glassman said, “We wanted people who believed in Dress for Success and believed in our group mission between Talbots and Oprah even if they had their own affiliation with their own cause. We did this before the Time’s Up movement. Everything just felt like perfect timing actually.…The main thing is it’s feel-good product that brings joy into people’s life. By doing so, they’re helping other women.”

He approached the color palette and the concept with a buy-now-wear-now mentality that also transitions into spring and summer. Instead of more time-sensitive florals, there are red, white and blue styles including stripes, a touch of gingham, and a ladybug motif that “really reads like a polka dot,” Glassman said. “One day I was at Oprah’s house, sitting in one of her gardens and I started seeing all these ladybugs. I thought, ‘That’s a cute idea. They kind of look like polka dots.’ They are a symbol of hope and life and love — prosperity — and some cultures actually believe they’re about taking actions on your dreams. I thought how perfect is that for our connection for Dress for Success.”

For the annual style event and shopping party on March 3, Glassman and Gayle King will visit Talbots’ Madison Avenue store. The pair have a satellite media tour planned and are expected to appear on Rachael Ray’s show Feb. 13 to coincide with the March issue landing on newsstands. Revenue for the magazine brand is up 5.4 percent from January through the April issues and its audience has increased 5 percent in the past year, gaining nearly a half million readers for the magazine, according to a Hearst spokeswoman.

Talbots is also in growth mode. With its weeks-old stores in Palm Beach Gardens and Seal Beach up-and-running, the company is gearing up for June openings for stores in Preston Oaks, Tex., and Kenwood, Ohio. In the meantime, it’s true blue spirit can be found in the new collection. Cavanagh said, “The color palette, a deep navy, white and red, feels very appropriate this month going into the Olympics. And it’s just a really modern palette that you can wear with everything.”

And although Winfrey is “a fabulous woman who makes connections, speaks beautifully and understands the world, and really could have everyone’s arms come together from both sides, she’s not looking to be a politician,” Glassman said.
